[Press Conference] Documentary “Encounter”

Documentary with Martha Argerich released in May 2025

Following the completion of the documentary “Encounter,” which follows the unique collaboration between Martha Argerich and Noh actor (Shite-kata Kanze school, Living National Treasure) Otsuki Bunzo, a press conference was held on Friday, May 30th, hosted by the Japan National Press Club, with film director Stephanie Argerich, Martha Argerich, Otsuki Bunzo, and Beppu Argerich Music Festival General Producer Kyoko Ito.

This documentary was produced by the Argerich Arts Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Beppu Argerich Music Festival this year.
The documentary is composed of two parts: the performance which took place at the MOA Museum of Art in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture in May 2022, and what happened behind the scenes during the performance.

In this performance, Otsuki Bunzo performed a new Noh dance to Bach’s dance suite “Partita No. 2” performed by Argerich, and the video was directed by filmmaker and Music Festival official filmmaker Stephanie Argerich.
