Yurie Miura

Yurie Miura was born in Tokyo in 1981. She enrolled in Yamaha Music School at the age of 3. In 1993, Miura studied in the Yamaha Master Class. She has studied under Fumiko Eguchi, Vera Gornostaeva and Shinji Urakabe. In 2005, Miura graduated at the top of the class from both the undergraduate course (in 2005) and the master’s program (in 2007) of the Royal College of Music. She studied under Christopher Elton. In 1995, Miura First Prize in the 3rd Göttingen International Chopin Competition. Since then, she began holding concerts in Germany and other places. In 1999, Miura won First Prize as the youngest-ever winner at the 3rd Marienbad International Chopin Competition. She won First Prize, Gold Medal, Youngest Finalist Prize, and Carlos Cebro Special Medal Prize at the 47th Maria Canals International Music Competition in 2001 and received a special prize at the 15th Leeds International Piano Competition in September 2006.
In 2002, Miura made her debut in London performing with the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra. In 2004, she gave a recital invited by Internationale Chopin-Gesellschaft in Wien, making her debut in Vienna. In the same year, Miura performed with the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra again.
To date, she has performed extensively with major orchestras in Japan and abroad, including the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Chiba Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, and Cairo Symphony Orchestra.
Miura continues to garner attention through activities such as performing in the “B→C” recital series organized by Tokyo Opera City in 2010, presenting concerts of a complete cycle of Ravel’s piano works in 2015, and giving concerts performing the complete piano works of Debussy at Philia Hall between 2019 and 2025.
She has been frequently invited to perform at music festivals such as the Tokyo Spring Festival, La Folle Journée, the Sendai Classical Music Festival, and the Gargantua Music Festival in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Miura is also highly active in the chamber music field, releasing a CD (NAXOS) performing Elger’s works with Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma, going on concert tours with her in Japan, Britain, the Netherland, etc.She has been actively engaged in various projects, such as forming a piano trio with Tamaki Kawakubo (violin) and Mari Endo (cello) in 2009, and the “Tokyo Six-Member Group,” a woodwind ensemble composed of soloists in 2015.
Miura has made numerous appearances on television and radio programs, including “Meikyoku Recital, “Best of Classic,” “Classic Club,” “Minna no Chopin,” “Kira-Kura!,” and “La La La♪ Classic.” She made her CD debut with Avex Classics in 2005. The albums “Chopin: 24 Preludes” (released in 2010), “Miniatures” (2014), and “Chopin: Ballades & Scherzos” (2018) were all selected as “Special Recommended Recordings” by the magazine Record Geijutsu (Ongaku no Tomo Sha).
In 2016, she received the 26th Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Music Award (Fresh Artist Award).
