Kitamura won many prizes including First Prize and Grand Jury Prize at the Tokyo Music Competition and international competitions in Hamamatsu, Sydney, Leeds, etc. He is expanding his activities regularly in both Japan and Europe, giving solo recitals displaying his unique programming sense, as well as with orchestras, chamber music, and period instruments.
Kitamura has released six solo albums with fontec. He received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s New Artist Award in the Music category at the 75th Arts Encouragement Prize in 2024 for his achievements including “Liszt Années de pèlerinage – tous les trois années.” Kitamura also received the Excellence Award in the recording category at the 76th Agency for Cultural Affairs National Arts Festival Prize and the 22nd Saji Keizo Prize. After enrolling at Tokyo University of the Arts, he studied piano at the Berlin University of the Arts, graduating with highest honors. Kitamura then studied historical performance techniques at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. He currently lives in Berlin.
