A cellist who represents the younger generation in both ability and popularity. In 2019, Sato attracted attention by becoming the first Japanese person to win the cello category of Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD, which boasts a long tradition and authority. In 2018 he won First Prize and Special Prize at the Lutosławski International Cello Competition. In addition, Sato has won many awards, including First Prize in the cello category of the 83rd Japan Music Competition, the Tokunaga Prize, and the Kuroyanagi Prize. He has already performed with major orchestras in Japan and abroad, and has been well received in recitals and chamber music as well. In November 2021, Sato released his second album “SOUVENIR – Debussy & Franck Works Collection” from the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon, and in April 2023, he released his third album “Wings of Song – Mendelssohn Works Collection.” Sato is the winner of the 18th Saito Hideo Memorial Fund Award, the 30th Idemitsu Music Award, and the 32nd Japan Steel Music Awards, and FY2021 Agency for Cultural Affairs Director-General’s Award (International Art Division). He is currently studying at University of the Arts, Berlin. The instrument he is currently playing is E. Rocca 1903, loaned from the Munetsugu collection.
