Sakaguchi Gentaro

Sakaguchi Gentaro is an acting vice principal violist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
He was born in 1977 in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, and graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Music, Department of Instrumental Music, Viola Major, and Master’s Course at the Graduate School of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Instrumental Music, Chamber Music (Viola and Piano Duo).
In October 2000, Sakaguchi joined the NHK Symphony Orchestra while studying at the graduate school. He won Third Prize at the 9th Japan Chamber Music Competition. (Duo with pianist Harada Kyoko) and also received the Encouragement Award. Sakaguchi has performed chamber music actively as a member of the Aperto String Quartet, the Speranza Chamber Orchestra with members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and the Mercedes Ensemble.
He has studied the violin with Yoko Ohtsuki, Ohkuma Tsuneo, and Tenma Atsuko, and studied the viola with Nakatsuka Yoshiaki and the viola and piano duo with Matsubara Katsuya
