Tamaki Kawakubo

Tamaki Kawakubo won the Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition in 2001, and the highest prize in the violin division of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2002. She has performed with major orchestras in North America and become a veteran of the concert stage. In Japan she made her debut as soloist with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung in 1997. Since her debut, Kawakubo has performed with leading orchestras inside and outside Japan. Her refined techniques and musicality that respect the decency of each piece are highly rated.
She was appointed Resident Artist at the Shiiki presents Argerich’s Haus in May 2026. Kawakubo is a professor at Toho Gakuen Graduate School (Toyama School).
She plays 1685 Stradivarius “ex-Gagliano,” on loan from the Yagi Fine Arts Collection.
