Kawakubo Tamaki won the Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition in 2001, and the highest prize in the violin division of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2002. She was born in Los Angeles, and she has performed with major orchestras in North America from an early age and become a veteran of the concert stage. In Japan she made her debut as soloist with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung in 1997. Since her debut, Kawakubo has performed with leading orchestras inside and outside Japan. Her refined techniques and musicality that respect the decency of each piece are highly rated. In recent years, she has also demonstrated her talent as a concert producer holding concerts planned by herself, and she is also keen on teaching younger musicians. Kawakubo is a professor at Toho Gakuen Graduate School (Toyama School).
