Preface

Oita Governor Hirose Katsusada declares that Oita Prefecture designates
June 5 as Martha Argerich Day in commemoration of her 80th birthday and in honor of her achievements in Oita Prefecture, in Japan and around the world.

The door to Western culture opened by Otomo Sorin 460 years ago in
Oita Prefecture brought the people in Oita Western
religion, medicine and classical music.
In particular, Oita has a history as a place where people learned and performed
Western music for the first time in Japan.
Over the years, the precious history built by our ancestors has been descended
to Ms. Martha Argerich developing this world-superb music festival.

The official name of the Music Festival is
MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu.
Oita Prefecture is a hot spring resort receiving many tourists.
It is truly a "meeting point" where people feel peace of mind mentally and physically.

We believe that Ms. Argerich's activities pursuing the role of the arts in society

contribute to paving the road to a peaceful society where people nurture harmony

and a sense of tolerance to live alongside each other.

In this modern society where division, discrimination and violence never cease,
we would like to communicate and practice this spirit together with Ms. Argerich

inside and outside Japan to step forward to building a peaceful society.
