The idea of launching an international music festival started when then Beppu Mayor Mr. Taro Nakamura made an earnest request to Kyoko Ito that he wanted to send out unique culture from Beppu B-Con Plaza that had just completed to the world. As a result, Martha Argerich assumed the post of Honorary Music Director of Philharmonia Hall of B-Con Plaza at the request of Beppu City.

1977: Martha Argerich met Kyoko Ito at Munich, Germany.
1992: February At the request of Beppu City, Kyoko Ito took office of adviser for the Social Education Division of Beppu City.
1994: January Martha Argerich visited Oita Prefecture for the first time to give "The 9th JEE concert Martha Argerich Chamber Music Festival" hosted by Japan Educational Exchange-Baba Foundation. Oita was chosen as one of the concert venues including Tokyo at the strong request of NHK Oita and the concert was held co-sponsored by Oita Bank. At the concert in Oita, then Beppu Mayor Taro Nakamura made an earnest request to help Beppu City send out unique culture to the world and asked Martha Argerich to become Honorary Music Director of Philharmonia Hall.
April Kyoko Ito became Music Adviser of Beppu Convention Bureau requested by Taro Nakamura,
Director of Beppu Convention Bureau.
October Martha Argerich assumed the post of Honorary Music Director of Philharmonia Hall of Beppu B-Con Plaza.

August The Executive Committee of the Music Festival: Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu was established.
Martha Argerich officially assumed the post of General Director of the Music Festival and Kyoko Ito assisted the General Director as Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Committee.

2000: In 2000 the Music Festival was not held as its schedule was changed from autumn to spring.
2001: April The 3rd MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (Apr. 14 to 22)
October The Executive Committee of the Music Festival received the One Village One Product Promotion Achievement Award.
2002: April The 4th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (Apr. 22 to 29)
Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani of the Kingdom of Thailand attended the 4th Music Festival.
October The Executive Committee of the Music Festival developed into the Organizing Committee, and the Governor of Oita Prefecture became the Chairman of the Committee.

Kyoko Ito, General Producer of the Music Festival, was awarded the Oita Godo Shimbun Cultural Prize for her contribution to the Music Festival.

2003: May The 5th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (May 1 to 1, May 17)
Concerts commemorating the 5th Anniversary of the Music Festival were held in Tokyo.
December Kyoko Ito, General Producer of the Music Festival, received the Special Prize of the Nippon Steel Music Award for her achievements of the Music Festival and the Tadpole Fund.
2004: May The 6th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (May 5 to 16)
Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani of the Kingdom of Thailand attended the 6th Music Festival.
2005: May The 7th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (May 14 to 22)
Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani of the Kingdom of Thailand attended the 7th Music Festival.
October The 17th "Praemium Imperiale" to reward excellent art creators around the world was awarded to Martha Argerich from the Japan Art Association. One of the reasons for her honor was her achievements through the Music Festival.
November The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette" was conferred upon General Director Martha Argerich by the Government of Japan, based on her achievements contributing to the development of music culture in Japan and fosterage of young musicians.
December Meeting Points: Chevaliers of the Music Festival were set up at 14 places in Oita Prefecture (Nakatsu, Hita, Saiki, Usuki, Tsukumi, Taketa, Bungotakada, Kitsuki, Usa, Bungoono, Yufu, Hiji, Kokonoe, and Kusu).
2006: April The 8th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (Apr. 14 to 23)
In February, a group of people from Korea expressed their intention to come to the Music Festival as part of their tour to Oita. About forty people came to Oita on a tour for the Music Festival.
2007: March The Argerich Arts Foundation was established. (Mar. 6)
April The 9th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (Apr. 11 to 21)
About fifty people came to the 9th Music Festival on a tour from Korea.
Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Special Concert Vol. 1 was held in Seoul, Korea. (Argerich visited Korea for the first time in thirteen years.)
2008: May The 10th Anniversary MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (May 7 to 21)
The Music Festival was honored with the presence of Her Imperial Majesty at the 10th anniversary Music Festival concert in Tokyo.
About fifty people came to the 10th Music Festival on a tour from Korea.
Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Special Concert Vol. 2 was held in Seoul, Korea.
2009: May The 11th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (May 11to 24)
About fifty people came to the 11th Music Festival on a tour from Korea.
Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Special Concert Vol. 3 was held in Seoul, Korea.
Seoul became the 15th Argerich's Meeting Point: Chevalier.
2010: April The 12th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (Apr, 9 to 27)
Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Special Concert Vol. 4 was held in Seoul, Korea.
A concert of the Music Festival was held in Fukuoka for the first time.
November Kyoko Ito, General Producer of the Music Festival, received the special distinguished service award from Beppu City for her contribution to the development of Beppu as a world-recognized art and culture city.
December Kunisaki and Himeshima became the 16th and 17th Argerich's Meeting Point: Chevaliers.
2011: May The 13th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (May 8 to 19)
Kitakyushu City became the 18th Argerich's Meeting Point: Chevalier.
November "Shiiki presents Argerich's Haus" building plan was announced.
Kyoko Ito, General Producer of the Music Festival, received the distinguished service award from Oita Prefecture for her contribution to the continuous realization of the Music Festival, the healthy development of children and the promotion of music culture.
2012: May The 14th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (May 9 to 19)
Pinocchio Concert was held for the first time in Tokyo. (The National Museum of Western Art) (May 22)

Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Special Concert Vol. 5 was held in Seoul, Korea.
September Argerich Arts Foundation became a public interest incorporated foundation from an incorporated foundation. (Sep. 2)
2014: April-May The 16th MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu (Apr. 24 to May 14)
Pinocchio Concert was held in Tokyo. (TOKYO National Museum) (May 14)
November The Music Festival's volunteer group received the Oita Godo Shimbun Cultural Prize Distinguished Service Award.
